Hi, I am...was in the business of repairing high end machines for the US Transportation Market. I am scrapping everything now and retiring.

I have tons OLD computer motherboards, Microprocessors, Memory, Hard drive, IC's and......and misc communications boards. I also have time.

Is it best for me to separate microprocessors and memory from the mother boards....These are 486 CPU's and AMD K-6 CPU's as well as gold finger memory ( see some attached pics).

Can I please get some advice for this scrapping because I am sure we will be well over 100lbs of material.

Just not sure what to do at this point, Thank you in advance for you help.
Dale

It’s always wise to remove processors and slotted memory.

Fan brackets, heatsinks and fans need to be removed for full motherboard rate.

Beyond that it’s generally straightforward. (Excluding telco definitions).

One other note: along with video cards there a high demand for large manufacturing process RISC processors right now for crypto. The i960 and x87 chips fall there. The large surface area makes them very easy to cool.
Look at selling ones that work.

Thank you for your help. I have plenty of the i960 CPU's (4-5 pounds). BTY where does the AMD K-6 fall in this category. I have just as much of these processors. Can I mix them for the quote?

Thanks again.

With the spreader on they’re AMD aluminium cap,
Pop the spreader off they’re AMD Ceramic.

What is the best way to remove the aluminum plate on the AMD K-6 processor. Also, you mention selling working i960 uP's. All mine work and have been on ebay for $11. Not one has sold. Who would I sell these too?

Thanks again.

For AMD K6 chips:A small thin screwdriver and general finesse. They’re glued in the corners. So pop them off gently one corner at a time.

Risc chips tend to sell in waves. From what I’ve seen since 2018.
Some crypto site will do an article on the benefits of using these old chips in accelerator cards for mining. A big wave of readers will go on ebay and Amazon and buy them up. The market then cools down. Till the next article is written.

I specifically point out these intel chips (plus sun Sparc and 32-bit ARM) because there’s lots of workstation accelerator cards that support them.
PowerMacs and IBM PowerPC have seen a bit of an uptick for the same reason.
Be patient.
I’m guestimating but it looks to be about quarterly that these waves hit.

There’s a lot of hobby play going on to now. Making mini waves in random things. I made a miner from a VHS player (note, it will never actually mine a bitcoin).
Tech dirt just covered someone who turned a game boy into a miner. (Note, it will never mine a Bitcoin)
Game boys had a rush.

Be patient
