I'm not sure if rvanover posted about fans before or if it was someone else, may be repeating myself...anyways...
Inside the center you have a post/drive pin/whatever you want to call it that will have some sort of clamp to secure it and the bearings. If you can get that clamp off (may be difficult depending on the construction) you can get the bearings, plastic, brass, motor windings and circuit board apart from each other fairly easily. I will do this when I get a dozen or more fans that I can do all at once. The brass can add up pretty quick and is probably the main reason I take the time to do it.
