If they work I sell or donate them.
If not, they're scrap.

Thank you, I’ll check with my local yard to see if they will take them as scrap.

Oh ok I misunderstood, are you able to get rid of the leftover plastic easily in your area? And do you know what should be done with the screen material?

For monitors, I take out the boards and wire but then I leave the rest inside and reassemble it and take it to Staples, they will take them for recycling for free. Of course I don't get any money, but I really don't know who I can sell LCD scrap to.

Bigger TVs, I have way of getting rid of the plastic and glass so I don't deal with those. Also anything with CCFL backlights should not go in the garbage.

My local city has a recycle area that takes plastic and glass, no money for the stuff but not going into garbage either.

Local plastics drops are a great thing for smaller communities. It really does take a commercial level of material to make buying plastics, glass, and paper, worthwhile.
I have a buyer that will pay for PET and HDPE, any colour, any shape, size. But the smallest weighable load they start at is 100lbs.
So it goes in my bin. I’m not saving 100 lbs of water and soda bottles.

H2R estimates that over 85% of non-food-grade plastics are PS, PP, or ABS.
They also suggest that less than 10% of curb side companies actually recycle them.
An unfortunate reality as those three are the most valuable. But like tin recovery require massive bulk to be viable.

If you have a local drop off use it as much as you can. Not only does it stay out of landfills and incinerators, it makes those drop offs stable enough to remain open from the quantity.

That's part of why I started doing that a few years ago. Not only does my reg trash not fill up crazy fast, it does benefit the county, as they get paid for it!

Take what you want out of it, put it back together and bring it to Staples, they will take the remains for free.
Can't speak to their sustainability report, but it keeps the nasty bits out of the ground.
