Hard drives are always getting bigger, and storage needs are ever-increasing so it makes sense that you would want to sell your used hard drives.

This is my tester rig. I run Hiren's BootCD off a SFF I dug out of a warehouse. Cut a hole in the side of the case to poke the SATA/Power through and eventually even found the Startech Dock in the same warehouse haul. I figure the scrap Gods were shining blessings upon me.

Generally speaking I only sell sealed in vacuum bag drives (there is still evidently a strong demand for even older 36GB Seagate Server drives and whatnot) but I did get a bunch of possibly worth testing and selling 2 TB drives out of the bag.

Hard drives are continually getting greater, and capacity needs are consistently expanding so it's a good idea that you would need to sell your utilized hard drives.

Keep in mind it’s not just a simple format and sell if you want real money.
You need to format, encrypt, reformat. To guarantee the data can’t be recovered.

I tried the way you said format, encrypt, and then reformat it works and no data was found after it thank you so much for your guidance :)

TLDR: wiping is a bit overkill today in 2021/2022.

I should follow up on this thread from 2017:
All apple solid state devices (including iPhone), after 2016 have encrypted master key.
A single restore to factory works on them

That means to gain data access you’d need to decrypt the 256-bit master key. Good luck.
That gives you access to a single database file stored in hex with no pointers; the keychain.
Which you have to translate to define keys you can then use to decode encryptions on hard drive locations. Encryption with an “s”.

Android supports this as well. Through the full device encryption function. Just make sure you remove your SD card first.

Windows xp pro and enterprise, and all versions of 7, 8, 10, 11 (excluding essentials and home) also support full drive WITH key encryption.

Master key in each case is stored in the efi/UEFI or the NV cache of the security chip and linked to the drive’s or storage chip’s hardware ID.
Any format will automatically wipe the old ID and create a new one. Old fashioned recovery is no longer an option even on default or the lowest possible settings for disk security.

All this is why nearly every OS today requires a password, pin, face, fingerprint, etc. To decode the encrypted master key.

The only real use today on modern devices for paid-for wiping is for SSDs that are addin (SATA, M2…) as opposed to hard mounted (cell phones).
Where over provisioning and wear-levelling all cells to lay dormant outside encryption and not user accessible.
