Just really getting started with BoardSort and am probably gonna fire a few questions out pretty quickly. My first question pertains to connector ends and what exactly qualifies as a “connector end”? Do both male AND female ends count or just the male end? Also, does this ONLY pertain to ends that have gold pins in them or do ends with brass, aluminum or tin also count? So confused right now

Top. Three of those would be connector ends with the wire cut off.
I don’t believe the smallest one is gold pin

My general suggestion for the disc laser modules is to toss the plastic ones into low peripheral and metal ones into midgrade.

You can do the same with disk arms. There’s some info on breaking this stuff down if you’re after certain things. Try searching for rhodium or laser.
But for the general public scrappers it’s more trouble than it’s worth

Remove the plastic backplate and the hard disk through connector is connector end.

I just came across this searching for something else--can you clarify what you mean for the disk arms? I have a bunch of these and I've been waiting to see if it was worth the time to try to get the little rhodium heads off. I have removed the winding from all of them.
Specifically, is Chris buying these just as aluminum, or is there a category for them due to the tiny bit of rhodium and possible bit of gold?

The arm is the complete actuator arm. It has 1-6 heads (8 for enterprise drives).
The heads on the end have a tiny bit of rhodium in them. Totally clean and with the steel ring removed you’ll get aluminium rate. As a whole they are generally midgrade.
If you have a lot, dozens of pounds, I would email Chris. Depending on daily values he may or may not offer a higher rate.

Keep in mind the rhodium content is infinitesimal. The head itself fits inside the dot of the i in TNR font at 10 point.

Like many of the treasure hunts I’ve posted this is for a hobby refiner with much time to dedicate. Not a method for the masses to get rich.
