When I was a noob several decades ago, I would snip any DB9, remove the shield and use a Dremel to zip off any pins. After several years, I had a few vials. Same went for any older parallel, or really any male connector. I no longer do this.
Point is: Youre going to spend your finite time here on Earth, and a lot of it, to collect a small amount of plated pins. If your market is soley selling to Boardsort, just send the connector.
It's not even worth it if you're a backyard refiner, the plating is so thin, your end result will be dissapointing.
Older military grade pins are a different story.
