Hi

This is my first post here at boardsort and I would like to start by saying thank you for the great website and forums. The info here is immensely helpful.

What I am working on is cleaning up the remnants of an abandoned computer recycling business. The business owner left all his goods and the bulding owner cleaned it out by throwing everything out the back door into a huge pile where it has been untouched for some 8 to 10 years.

Among the stuff I have found in the pile was a bucket of "mixed ceramics"(pic1). Most of the stuff here is no doubt ICs but there are some other items I am not sure about.

Pic 2 shows socket mounted ICs in their mounting sockets and some mounting sockets without an IC in them. Do the mounting sockets need to be removed to qualify for IC price?

Pic 3 shows some 3 leg items which are either transistors or voltage regulators as well as some other odd looking chips with multiple leggs. Do these need to be remved from the lot?

Thanks in advance for you help.

Chuck

Only the actual chips (the ones with 6 legs or more) in that pile will be considered IC chips.

The sockets, unless gold pinned, are not an item we buy.

And the items ceramics3.jpg are not IC chips or are at least something we do not buy.

Only the pieces that look like the picture I am attaching are going to bought as IC.

The chips in the last picture are made of brass for the most part. You can remove the plastic or ceramic and sell as brass to your local recycler.

I agree the square ones I have the same question. The three prong are copper I think. I only have questions about the square type pictured. My new post asks about the sockets left on a board. Ect.....

I think that pretty well answers the question on Single Inline Packages too.

Hooray for the search function :)

The square chips are also i.c chips, they have more than 6 legs. Although it is not actually beneficial for a buyer to buy that as i.c chips reason being is that people will try to depopulate high grade boards for its i.c's. The only thing you should be depopulating for its i.c chips are the low grade boards. Telecom boards and i.c chips have a small margin for a reason. lol
