I am sorting connector ends that have gold plating and was wondering should I be cutting off the hdmi ends too. I bought self storage unit Auctions and get a ton of scrap and I wanna start scrapping all this electronic stuff. This is my first time posting on this forum. Please advise if you think HDMI cables are good.

If they are gold plated and/or have gold pins inside yes.

Keep in mind the rest of the material in the pile/unit/etc though.
If everything in there is Sony and Onkyo it’s probably just gold plated cable ends.

If the stuff is McIntosh or utopia, XS, Amati…
The cable ends, and wires for that matter, very well could be gold, as in real 14-18kt gold.

Nobody is plugging gold cables into a $500 tuner. But if the tuner is $50k and the receiver is $100k there’s a good chance you have $1000 cables.

Btw, a 1m true gold cable (3.3 foot) is gonna get you around $300 in gold once you strip the wire out. Used those cables start around $1000.
Time for some ebay or whatnot action there.

Our audio video wires that appeared to be gold plated? Are they brass or gold plated cause I get a lot of audio video wires that are that gold color on the ends.

I’ll guesstimate that 99% are gold plated.

There are very few actual gold connectors. The only way to know for sure is an XRF or Acid test. But if you can bend the heavy nib or shaft in your hand it’s a good start to looking further

Wasn’t trying to suggest that gold is common, just for abandonment stuff, I’ve pulled gold cables out of storage.
Look at the surroundings. If you have a $1000 surround sound system, don’t think about it.
If you have a $100k home theatre with leather chairs and a 100” tv, maybe a second look.

Thank you, so the av wires that have the gold plate would be good for the connector end catagory? I am also saving the cat 5 ends for boardsort. I will scrap the cat 5 wire itself at the local yard.
