It goes back to plastic being a byproduct of the industry, if it was worth refining, they'd already do it instead of selling it.

If the oil wells all ran dry or became much more expensive to extract/refine then plastic recycling (in whatever form) might reach a point where it's viable from a business standpoint. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I can't speak to all plastics but I can speak to "plastoline"... It will never be viable because the math doesn't work. It takes more energy input than you can get as output. It's a net negative no matter how you break it down.... but it looks great on insta I guess

if they brought back the stanley steamer car..., toss the plastic in the fire and let it boil water... pay no attention to that massive amount of pollution it makes.

Only a waste for a small user. Commercial, it’s got potential.
Multiple facilities exist creating such recovered fuel already in the U.S. and around the world.
What you generally wind up, from my understanding, is a very
Low end diesel fuel.

I’ll also mention that I’ve driven heavy equipment in the Arctic long before the idiocy of the ice road shows came out. I’ve seen mixes used in some countries that use recovered plastic as an additive as it doesn’t freeze as high as diesel.

Before someone says diesel doesn’t freeze.
I’m primarily referring to the “heavy ice” that builds up below -20c.

And yes, diesel does freeze below -50c no mater how “winterised” it is.

Most recycling by-product is burnt for fuel.
This is something I’ve covered across the site multiple times.

It’s a well coverd fact that many items put in recycling are not recycled. That is everything from bottle faps and straws that don’t make it past the fine mesh filter… but also many larger plastic items that don’t line up to whatever processor’s facility equipment.
Shredded paper. Many types of coated paper and “paper products” that are actually wood.

In many places this leftover waste is shredded and compressed to make fuel blocks. Which are burned industrially to create heat, thus power, energy.

I love diesel engines. You can literally put anything in the tank and it'll go!

I think my main problem is that they're pitching it as a gasoline replacement. They did some videos where they put it in a scat pack and a rolls royce?

I don't know if that whole thing is some elaborate scam or what but the methods he uses are well known. If your goal is only to turn plastic waste into fuel at any cost then it's fine but don't pitch it as some revolutionary gas replacement produce that the government doesn't want you to know about
