Meet Salvager — Our Named Great White Shark

Earlier this year, Boardsort.com was invited to help name a real great white shark tagged by the Shark Research Foundation (SRF). We chose “Salvager” — a nod to what we do in e-waste recycling and a tribute to the strength and presence of this incredible apex predator.

Why “Salvager”? Just like we recover value from discarded electronics, great whites are nature’s relentless recyclers in the ocean food web — powerful, efficient, essential.

Science in Action

SRF’s team tagged a free-swimming Canadian great white with a fin-mounted satellite transmitter — fieldwork that helps researchers map movements, habitats, and migration corridors. These insights support conservation and public awareness.

How Boardsort Got Involved

The opportunity to name the shark came through our friend and fellow e-waste professional — and popular YouTube creator — Shark Scrapper. He connected the dots so the name would spotlight responsible recycling while celebrating a legendary ocean icon.

Why the Name Matters

Salvager reflects who we are: finding value, reducing waste, and doing the right thing. In the ocean, sharks maintain balance; on land, recyclers do the same for discarded tech. Different worlds — same mission.

From scrapyard scales to satellite tags, recovery is the through-line.
