Hey sorry for going silent, crazy in my shop atm. YES!!! I'd absolutely test anything I was sending out first, gladly provide pictures/video etc. You are correct, I've got a lot of stuff that was for parts, I've always gotten most of my repair parts from other devices. When they there's not much left they're hit with a torch for the remaining pieces then into the bin.

I'll take another look at the sound blaster vibra 16, and see how it looks. I've just gotten a couple of i486 stations set up since my last post and have so far tested about 1/3 of my old memory module stock, I think I can use these to test the sound cards, they're all ISA. Today I just rolled in an IBM PC Server 720, hasn't been touched since it was taken off line about 25 yrs ago, if it fires up I'll probably post a few pictures.

I know I did... I'll have to check if they're survived the last clearing out I did. I know I scrapped 3 or 4 Beta's last year, damn those things were seriously built!

VCR here's mostly what I've got left to go through of that type of thing, I've got one more load of misc coming from storage I'll check that also when I get it here.


The computer is a "Zenith Data Systems ZDF-2255-BK", (thought it was a Packard..). I did a google search for: Zenith Data Systems ZDF-2255-BK desktop computer , but didn't get much, likely 386/486, I can open it up if you're interested. Considering it only has RS-232 interface I'd think it's likely to be pre-486.


What I thought was more new PC's turned out to be a set of new rack mount hubs, Cabletron Systems SEHI-34. Honestly I think a person would have to be a sadist to put a hub in service (too many years doing network troubleshooting..)

I haven't tried to fire it up yet, want to give it a good visual and re-seat everything first.

The second vcr photo is mostly security recorders.
Though not much interest there for me: taking the time to pull the belts carefully is worthwhile. The same belts and bands are used in most pre-88 portable vhs players. And sell for $20+ each.

Those analogue tuners have my interest somewhat .
As does the smart terminal zenith.

Seriously!? I've just been throwing them in zip lock baggies for years. Maybe show me an example of the belts you're referring too and I'll check my baggies. Stuff like that I'm just happy to throw in with other stuff as long as you can get some use/value out of them. c(_)


Another buddy of mine (retired now) had a repair shop in the area for decades. Seemed like every time I stopped by just to say "Hi" he'd start clearing out his storage room and sneaking stuff into the back of my pickup to make room for his own things... that's where a lot of those types of devices came from. So, they were usually in one of three states: 1) parts machines 2) hadn't gotten to yet or 3) repaired but the customer never showed up or didn't want to pay. I'll try and identify which ones you are thinking of and check them for their condition.

Three things share the same belts if you match the length and width (and where applicable tooth pitch).
All are seeing a major revival.
VHS, phonograph, magnetic tape (computers).
Hanging on to belts today is not a bad idea.
I continually preach VHS never died. New films are released in limited quantity every year on nos tapes.

Records are seeing a major resurgence with new amp tech that preserves the analog sound but removes the fringe frequency noise.

And file coin (the most important crypto and storage tech nobody knows about) has surpassed 500 million libraries. The premise here on redundancy and depth, not speed, has seen a massive uptake in tape systems, new like LTO 7+ and old like HPTS and ITF.
