The vast majority of video game main boards (note main and not mother) go as peripheral
They’re almost always missing one or the other of two key requirements, they rarely have ram expansions and never have peripheral card connectors.
The exceptions being the first generation of PS1 machines where the heavy high value computer ports work to offset the missing internal expansions. The first generation Sega Saturn with the PCMCIA socket on top and the peripheral bus port on the bottom. development consoles like the Yaroze and the Sega Master Kit, SGPC, etc which are literally full fledged computers with the game code implemented as an augment.
As I’ve said in the past though development consoles and the first PSX are worth more than scrap though no matter how bad they’re trashed. Run them over with a car and sell all the pieces in a plastic bag and you’ll still get $10-$20 on ebay!
