I’m going to say peripheral. My first thought was small socket. But it’s missing memory expansion (no DIMM or Dip) but it does have soldered memory. The transformers, sockets and board weight keep it out of telco and it’s definitely better than midgrade so...
Peripheral. Final answer. Lol

:annoyed:
Last board
Ohkay what is it. 3 megs of ram. A risc chip, a cisc chip. The output... looks disabled? No tracing. But the input is good. So it’s meant to take something in and not do anything with it? Lol. Unless it’s transmitting over a serial line to a different output. With only 3 megs of memory and two dedicated to instructional processing (I’m guessing) the third must be a buffer. Disabling direct line output explains the empty ram spot.
There’s a lot of power on board for whatever it does...
Any idea what it is?
The only thing I can even remotely match up is a programmer or translator but with that much redundant power it doesn’t make sense!
——
So the dummy port isn’t so dummy. It’s fead by the removable ram via the static ram? So... there’s some sort of addition or stripping of the output?
Without knowing what the hell all that power is for this could have been implemented in a board half that size without all the redundancy in everything. In 1980 technology.
Watch this turn out to be something like a stupid Apple printer board or something. But seriously... what is it? Lol

Wait. A phone controller?
That makes sense for a talk-talk network phone. The Rom system regulating ram for transmission to multiple phones?
I’m done. I’ll wait for an answer now.
