I’m learning the difference ICs and other chips. What am I required to remove from the boards and how far can I go removing parts before board sort dosnt want the boards any more?

Always remove batteries, heatsinks, and metal shields. You can remove socketed ICs if you want, but sometimes it's not worth the trouble.
