Yes. They could be. I did a search on the internet trying to track that chip down. I could not get an exact hit on the chip. But. From the "Bits and Pieces" I gathered. That chip probably was used in an analog phone system in a commercial setting. Protel does that type of product. A possible handheld single line communication device. Sort of like a walkie talkie. But much more sophisticated. That F1105D278 number is a FCC number. The Protel number seems to ID the phone system. AND. It seems that system is discontinued. So. How many people are going to want to up keep an old system? Some do. There are vendors that buy and sell antique/retro/discontinued electronics. You got to do the leg work to find them. My question. Do you have any escrap boards with that chip on it? That can give you further direction. It's a tough decision. I hope some veteran scrapper posts something. I am not. I am in a similar situation. Scrap or sell.
