I have several older laptops where my research shows they have socketed CPUs. The CPU are a bit hard to get to, so I don't want to dismantle the laptop if there is some reason these would not be eligible for the Tested CPU program. For example, I have "4th Gen Intel Core i7 in a rPGA946B socket", elsewhere referred to as a G2 socket. Please let me know if socketed CPU from laptops would be of a different kind that would not be accepted? Thanks in advance.

All the tested CPUs are land grid array type sockets. If you're research was correct then the cpu you have is likely ineligible for testing and scrap wise should fall under green/brown fiber without metal category.

Thank you marked141. After reading your reply, I looked up PGA vs. LGA (and even learned about BGA or Ball Grid Array). Although the answer means less money for me, I can now proceed by selling them as-is.

No problem, I had to double check that PGA was what I thought before I replied. My understanding is Boardsort only has the hardware to test the current Intel lineup of desktop CPUs that use a particular socket. It's possible they expand that capability in the future to account for a new socket or different manufacturer.

Boardsort has a limited number of units for testing and try to stick with what would be most likely to sell quickly.

Keep in mind even if boardsort isn’t interested working CPUs are worth more than scrap.
It depends on which model you have, but even those old pga chips are usually above scrap value for a resale.

Lost, I'm sure you are correct, but I have never sold anything on EBay, so would have a zero-reputation on my account. I guess I need to figure out how to get started, in order to have more options...thanks!

I don't sell or buy much on ebay but if you have anything worth selling it wouldn't hurt to make an account and list an item or two to start getting some seller reviews. Be sure to be honest about what it is and it's condition.

I tend to sell the rings, platters and motors from hard drive disks when I get enough to fill up a flat rate box. I try to make sure I sell between scrap and the going rate of similar items that have sold recently so that it doesn't take too long to sell.

Good luck!
