I need clarification on "Modern Smart Phone No Batt No Cover". I'm new and I will be sending in my first box soon. I have some smart phones.

Most of phones I have are sealed - I can't remove the back plate and therefore can't remove the battery. So do these fall under "Any cell phone with battery"?

Thanks for the help.

If the battery is inaccessible, typically iPhones, it falls under that any cell with battery category.

Boardsort wants as few batteries as possible due to the risk of fire. You can read about that here if interested viewtopic.php?f=7&t=22137

Thanks. I thought that was the case but wanted to be sure. What's the thought on mailing batteries (in phones or otherwise)? Better to discard locally?

Batteries should be shipped via ground if you're going to ship. If you have local options that's probably your best bet. I have one scrap yard near Austin that still pays for them for now, you might ask around at any scrap yards you have.

Almost any home supply or electronics store will accept your electronics batteries for free.

I have taken Iphones apart. It is tricky business. A lot of small screws. You need a precision screwdriver set with a lot of various bits. Getting the glass face removed first is tedious. It is rigid. Can crack easily. And if it does. Tiny flakes of glass go everywhere. And they are sharp. Extremely small. Using a heat gun is a must in my opinion and slowly slowly work it free from the case. Then the really dangerous step. Removing the battery without puncturing it. Those batteries are glued in tight. Real tight. The battery is flexible and bends and twists while removing. Prying on them is dangerous. They can easily be punctured. Must use a blunt tool. Again it is time consuming and dangerous. And yes. I personally punctured one. I never ran so fast outside my house to throw it out. It was literally burning in my hand. It was a real spectacle. And they burn fast and hot. Me. I am a retired electronic technician. I have time to do stuff like that and tools. I am not in the escrap business. Just getting rid of an accumulation of electronics. And exploring the escrap horizon. I did get cell phone boards from my investgative project. Price comparison to cell phone with battery. 5.75 to 1 now. I don't recommend taking them apart though. I did it because I never took cell phones apart. I wanted to see what they were about. Very tedious. Time consuming. Dangerous. Many other cellphones are different. I am just relating this Iphone attempt at removing the battery and boards. Now. I did about 10 Iphones. I have no intention of ever removing boards from cellphones again. I don't recommend taking Iphones apart.
Here to learn like everybody else.

What's nice about some of the batteries is they have removable adhesive that you can pull out. Kinda fun too, they stretch and stretch and streeeeeeeeeetch... :P
