Removing the glue and thermal compound from Gold Finger Ram was not exactly quick and easy. I would call the process tedious and time consuming. I used a basic utility knife. Basically just scraping. The adhesive balled up and stuck terrible to the blade and board. But. I feel good about having "reasonably removed" the contaminents. Thanks Lostinlodos. But I have not seen a post exclusively addressing the subject of removing shields from Gold Finger Ram. EXCEPT. The issue of removing shields to reap more money. After all. There's quite a difference in price between Shielded and Unshielded. Which dovetails into my original interest in even considering removing shields from Gold Finger Ram. WHEN DOES IT PAY TO REMOVE SHIELDS? I did a calculation of average weight of clean Gold Finger Ram. Versus average weight of Shielded Gold Finger Ram. To those with some math knowledge. THE MEAN weights overall. I did my novice calculation with Gold Finger Ram at $60 a pound. Shielded at $22 a pound. My conclusion. At a Shielded Gold Finger Ram weighing 2.0 oz. or above I would submit to Boardsort. The payout will be greater than removing the shielding. This type of calculation is directly parallel with Gold Finger Card with bracket versus Gold Finger Card clean. A payout issue that is real. But. It is fluid. Prices change. After the downward swing of prices. You should do your own judgement. NOTE. I am in full retirement. I have time to fiddle with this type of issue. Here to learn like everybody else My evaluations are my own.
