hello,

i've been getting a lot of consumer networking equipment lately and noticed that while the boards are well populated, a large %age of the chips are BGAs and not ICs.
how should i factor this into grading? two 1x1cm bgas = a single 1x1cm IC or something along those lines? i have heard that BGAs contain less gold on average especially newer ones.

Take a look at the price list. There's bga with gold tab at 42/lb currently, ICs at 15.25/lb currently and bga with no gold tab at 2/lb currently.

You'll have to see what's on your boards specifically tab vs not and you can see how it affects the value based on the price list

thanks marked141. i totally memory holed that there was a BGA no gold tab category.

so 1/8th the value of ICs.. ouch. looks like i will have to reevaluate my grading.
