I saw those new listings in the Metal Category. That got my interest. I found a tray/ plate in a pick up. It was the stangest thing. Of course I uploaded a photograph. I could see the obvious patina on the tray. But. It was so easy to bend. I figured it was lead. So. I cut into it to see if it was copper. It was shiny silver color the whole way through. So. Opps. What do I have here? I don't know. I emailed Chris with a photo. Anybody with input would be helpful. I get the feeling this will be an XRF Gun request. Which is fine with me.

It’s an old oven tray I believe.

I believe it’s not tarnished but burnt.
First guess is aluminium. Given how easy it is to bend.

Oh. Luck doesn't just happen. You make it. I will not deny extraordinary circumstances. As a lightning bolt lottery win. Which as my college professor pointed out. You have a BETTER chance. At being hit by a lighting bolt than hitting the lottery. One makes his own luck. Through dilegence and hardwork.

If it’s intended for retail/order it’s usually marked. Forks, plates, cups, creamers, pitchers, vases, frames, glasses, statues, etc.
look for silver plate, sp, plate,
Or just silver (true silver alloys will always have a content number stamped).

Or ep, or if it says China it’s electroplate (junk silver). Ep is usually on copper where Chinese plate is usually on brass.

Otherwise most plate for use is on copper or a very high copper brass with no nickel.
Decorative plate is usually on brass

Should have mentioned unless your at or before WWII.
But those in just about any recognisable condition tend to be worth more than the base metals.

Thanks. Lostinlodos. I got a pack of Japanese WW2 cigarettes from that clean out. Standard issue. 8 pack. A few more items. I now wish I wasn't so stupid to go for scrap value on the tray. Could be worth something more. But. Could be a tire kicker. ref. Austin86. I usually do move on. But. Lostinlodos. Yes important point. I look for occupied Japan. Found none. I am going to acutely look over these boxes from this clean out.

I have a leaflet that was dropped before the American invasion of Japan. Warning the people. They go for about $250 on ebay. It's in good condition.
