This thread has gone on a tangent. My original question was about LCDs. Why are we talking about CRTs?

IMO, if you are not a larger scale operation or E-waste management, do not break down monitors or TVs. You will be left with an amount of waste you cannot handle or it will go places it shouldn't and not be taken care of correctly. Plastics, screens, etcetera.

As Marked141 stated, Goodwill and your local town or state "clean-ups" ( which usually occur once or twice a year for cities) have a spring or summer routine clean up for an electronic drop-off. Free***

All crt units contain dangerous concerns.
From toxic chemicals at any and every CRT has regardless of what the specific toxin is.
To the risk of implosion blowback
To the very real concern of live electric in a non-discharged television. Those capacitors stay alive for a very long time.

The bottom line that was made here is if you don’t know what you’re doing (education not YouTube) don’t mess with them

Didn't see this mentioned but my father's township and my township have a specific building where you can drop off hazardous E-Waste.

What we do is take a few over at a time as they employees of the township check IDs and verify you aren't from a different township.

As long as you don't abuse this they are fine with a few trips a month. I took a half dozen laptops carcasses and I have 5 more ready to go when I head that way.
