Aren't there at least 3 form factors on the Pentium II? We probably need a picture.

If you want to get technical. socket 8, slot 1, BGA, and what ever the laptop socket ones are called, slot 2 and sk370 if you want to get really technical about it. just a note do not scrap the socket 8 Pii's they're worth upwards to 500$ a pop.
Madpup1971 said laptop PII so I assuming he meant the socketed laptop Pii chips.

I'm no good with knowing chips by name, so I Google. I saw a pentium ii in apple cpu form and green/brown fiber no metal form.

So...if both exist, we need a picture or specific chip info from the OP.

I’m assuming it’s either a ceramic pga with no gold cap or a black fibre pga.
They go as is. I have a long post coming tomorrow explaining the story beyond that.

mobile Pii's that are not a PGA, if they are not BGA and soldered to the board almost always use a module/card like a apple CPU.

There was a very small number of later Dixon core Pii that were PGA but I never seen one that was not soldered to the board without a socket, the chances of OP having ones of those is very small and even smaller if its a true PGA with socket.
I don't think they made any ceramic Pii chip on any form factor but I could be worng.

Here a good site with a list of the mobile Pii

This is exactly why this site service exists.
I got hung up on the slot idea posted…
I’ve seen only 1 slot cpu in a laptop in my life: and only know of 3 that existed.

As for card based vs die based, it’s likely I was then and remain deeper into development when it comes to fixing and working with equipment, but most of what I’ve seen are pga. But according to the interwebs I’m wrong and BGA was most common.

marked141 Pointed out 3, there’s actually 6
ceramic double die (size of a P-pro) pga
Ceramic double die BGA
Fibre double die pga
Card type pga
Card type bga
Slot

And real world (again have a write up coming in 12 to 24 hours) some stupid idiots decided to stick slot processors into laptops: both Intel and AMD. And they burnt out permanently the moment you tried to do anything that would require a pentium anything or k6 over a 486.
As Randy orton has said, multiple times

My research went as far to identify if there were any differences that affect scrap grade. I found three pretty quick and stopped. Hopefully the OP sees the conversation so they can confirm what they have and sort accordingly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

indeed, we can debate all day long but we will never know what OP has until he posts a photo of it.
