I have several old hard drive boards that are very densely populated and have gold tab BGAs on them…still just hard drive class? (Asking mostly bc of the gold BGA)

We’ll need a picture to accurately ID.

First and last appear to be non-sata high grade hdd boards

Middle, low grade sata hdd board.

So back to my actual question….the Gold Tab BGA doesn’t change anything?

Those are non-SATA but they aren’t SCSI/pinned they are SAS connection…the Boardsort video doesn’t show this type under high or low grade

The two non-sata don't have to be a specific type of connection, they just can't be sata to reach high grade hdd. These are typically higher end boards or older boards from when more precious metals were in the components.

The one is sata, so by the grading convention Boardsort uses I can only say low grade hdd. It is a nice board with lots of nice stuff on it, but Boardsort would need to see it if you want to be sure.

The bgas don't have bearing on the grade difference. Unless you remove it then it might drop it.

I have been wondering about sas. Sas has a closed gap in the fingers. Sata has an open gap in the fingers. The names are different. I just processed 1000 old hard drives. All the sas had the gold tab bga like yours. All the sata are obviously less valuable. I put all the sas in high grade non sata. I have not shipped the box yet. Can someone give a definitive answer if sas is considered non sata or is it considered sata even though the two connectors are not physically interchangeable.thanks
