I understand *why* (cost of labor of recovery & amount of precious metals)

but I am curious why MBs are the lowest category board. I've had some low peripheral that had almost nothing on them and the MBs have at least some gold pins and other stuff.

Is there any way to upgrade an AMD board to a low grade peripheral?

Pardon my clear bias towards AMD in this. lol.

AMD boards, as a general consumer product from mainstream manufacturers, simply have less components. All the way back to the X and FX series of the early 2000s and on, AMD has been building controllers and co-instructions into the CPU. The boards themselves got both smaller and lighter in components.

Now let’s clear one thing up for everyone. AMD boards refer to what you pull out of a Dell, HP, or micro box computer.
NOT the massive ROG board, or Falcon NW, Ibuypower boards etc.
if you have a 16” square plus board with 12 full size expansion sockets and a dozen large SoC chips, it’s going a higher grade.
Where they go I’ll follow up on once I speak with Chris on it.

I understand that, but i feel like ive seen low grade peripheral with less components per surface area.

I guess its just how the buyer than boardsort sells to classifies them.

I've always wondered about that as well. It seems like they would have as much recovery as a high grade peripheral board.
