What is it? i had no idea. i had a trs-80, cassett tape & b/w tv. got bored with the novelty and went back to living life. yrs later, amiga 500 was my first computer. klikable icons and graphics from heaven. i couldn't figure out y IBMers were typeing adressess. i kliked icons, and did i mention the colors on my screen? thanks to handles, lostinlodos's handle caused me to research 'lo dos'. never delt with it in my amiga. turns out that tiny little space, 640KB, was a tight spot. The IBM Core: Typing Destinations in "Low DOS"The Text Prison: In 1987, when an IBM user turned on their machine, they were greeted by a stark, pitch-black screen with a cold, flashing green prompt: C:\>.The Manual Labor: To do anything—even just to open a folder—they had to manually type strict, unforgiving keyboard commands like CD\GAMES\DOS and then RUN.EXE. One single typo or missed backslash, and the machine threw a frustrating error. The Color Desert: Most business IBM PCs at the time were running basic CGA or EGA graphics, displaying a blocky, eye-straining mix of just 4 to 16 colors. i had never done any of that.
The Amiga 500: Just Click the Icon and go.
i came to XP as next computer, totaly leap-frogging low dos. thank you lostinlodos, making me research your handle, finding out i missed all that agony. (you didnt make me, i'm just a researcher at heart) those were era's never to be lived again. all you guys n gals have untold power in your 24/7 personal trakers now. live the good life while you can. the gates to hell will be slaming shut shortly. cameras, cell trakers, bluetooth, wifi trakers, all tied to your phone. lost mine yrs ago, dont miss it except in hospital. no landlines in hospital rooms.
party on scrappers...
