UPS lost my shipment with about $500 in material in it. Last scan was two weeks ago in Columbus OH.

My question is this…has anyone else had this happen and have the package eventually show up?

And then…should I start insuring scrap shipments?? Seems like I’d have a real challenge explaining value to a UPS rep, but in this instance I’m only getting $100 for my material bc I didn’t add insurance.

Back in college I used to sell stuff on ebay, over 1k packages mailed (although like 99% were via usps, only used UPS a handful of times). Of these shipments, I believe only two got lost in the mail ever. I opened a lost mail claim for each, both ended up delivering not long after.

I'm not sure how to go about addressing ups lost shipment, so hopefully superfly's suggestion is useful.

I did have a stacked pallet get separated and temporarily lost once but Chris called immediately after weighing and seeing the discrepancy. I called gorvenn (who offers shipping services for pallets on this forum) and he got on it. It was found at one of the depots and delivered shortly after.

Good luck!

I had two shipments lost by UPS and I refuse to use them. I will gladly pay the USPS prices if they are higher but NORMALLY using pirateship USPS is actually cheaper.

I am sorry you are going through this...I know the feeling. However, mine two shipments were only around 100 dollars so I can't imagine 500 being lost...

It sucks. I filed a claim and they pretty quickly “resolved” it - cutting an insurance check for $100 plus shipping. Which is obv still several hundred shy of how much scrap value there was. They supposedly can’t find the package. I’m not sure how a large box that weighs almost 50 pounds just “disappears”.

I always insure what I ship. With any and every carrier.
That’s the easiest way
To handle missing packages.

Every carrier is different on time required for waiting though.

overall, who is winning, insurer or you on your balance sheet. if i was still a gambler, i'm bettin insurer always wins in the end. another casino where house always wins or they'll change the rules mid-game or raise your contrabution to their retirement.

just sayin...

It’s extremely rare I have any reason to file a claim.

The few times over the last 3 decades have always been fairly easy to deal with.
