I don’t normally pop capacitors but I did on some low grade boards recently.

I thought they go to the local yard as dirty aluminum but they rejected them. Is that the yard or am I wrong in my understanding of what they are?

Are these “worth” saving up and selling somewhere at some point?

Some yards have a no capacitor policy stemming from older capacitors containing PCBs. Then you still have capacitors with a variety of innards, some of which may be unwanted or prohibited by others in the aluminum scrap food chain.

I have never been denied capacitors but they are tossed in with all my other mounds of dirty aluminum.

Since I don't ship low/mid grade boards for cost reasons I tend to pull them off of those boards. My yards around me pay like .02 cents, if they take e-waste, a pound. Less than shred price. Right now I am looking for options to sell low/mid grade boards locally. If I don't find anyone locally paying close to boardsort prices then I will pack them up and take them on a long car ride when I have enough.
