Yes, those are purchased, most likely as either sun or pinless CPU's,
both of which are currently at $5.75 a pound. The connector pad would most likely go as gold pin connector. Some decent weight there. ;)

Does this need to be separated from the copper backing or can it be shipped complete? The only way to separate is with heat and i do not to ruin any of the gold content in chip for boardsort.

No, you don't have to remove the chip from the plate, it is the same price either way. The smaller ones are also the same, they are just that, smaller.

What is on the other side of the big copper coloured plate?

I've never seen a CPU like this. What did it come out of? I guess the connector pad sits between the CPU and the board? Very interesting!
